BAYTOWN, Texas (KTRK) -- Authorities in Baytown detained a woman whom they said shot her father and pistol-whipped her mother during a disturbance.

According to the Baytown Police Department, officers were called to a family disturbance at 1:15 p.m. Thursday at a home in the 400 block of Rollingwood Drive.

Police said 42-year-old Melissa Rodriguez had shot her dad and pistol-whipped her mom, and after, took her 3-year-old son into the camper parked on the driveway.

Officers established a perimeter and issued several commands but said Rodriguez refused to comply.

Baytown PD said that "due to the nature of the incident, the reported use of a firearm, and the presence of a child, officers deployed chemical agents in an effort to safely resolve the situation."

After the deployment, authorities said Rodriguez got out of the camper and surrendered without incident. She and her 3-year-old son were evaluated and cleared.

Police said Rodriguez is expected to be charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
